Microsoft is rolling out a new update for both Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary versions on Windows 10. Microsoft is updating Edge Canary with support for Grammar tools, while Edge Dev is picking up improvements and fixes.

Microsoft Edge Dev version is now 76.0.172.0 and it doesn’t come with any major features, but it does include some important fixes. For example, the update fixes crashing issue of Edge.

Another issue has been addressed where the browser crashed when the user opened settings in InPrivate Mode.

Latest Edge Dev build also makes sense to the behaviour of pinned websites on the new tab page. For example, if a website is already being loaded in the Edge in a particular tab and users try to click on the pinned icon pointing to the same page, then Edge puts focus on the tab that contains the shortcut’s website instead of opening a new tab every time.

Another subtle change that Microsoft has brought is that the history menu can now display the full URL of a website when hovering the mouse over its link.

Edge Canary gains grammar tools

The grammar tools can be used in the reading view mode, allowing users to read articles with a special focus on texts. As some users noticed, you would need to manually enable the grammar tools from the flags menu.

To access Grammar tools in reading mode, go to flags menu and enable #edge-reading-view-grammar-tools.

Grammar tools

To check if the Grammar tools are enabled, you need to open a page where the reading view is available and click the small book icon in the address bar.

The grammar tools menu comes with options like syllables, highlighting for parts of speech like nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The purple colour for nouns, red for verbs and more.

The built-in grammar tool would make it easier to read books, novels, stage plays and websites in Reading view. It could improve reading comprehension through increasing fluency learners or readers of other languages.

Today, Facebook is rolling out a new update to its Messenger Beta on Windows 10 after a long gap. The last update was released in 2018 and after a long gap, Facebook is pushing out a new update for Messenger beta on Windows 10 devices.

The long overdue update for the Messenger application comes with several new features apart from the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. The latest update advances the Messenger beta to version 196.2194.9505.0 from version 165.1680.5943.0. This beta release introduces a new layout for the login page.

The developers have also introduced a new chat search option and renewed settings page in this release. This update introduces an optional ‘Data saver’ feature to prevent images and videos from downloading automatically and eating up your internet data balance. When the feature is enabled, you have to tap on the video to play the content.

After installing today’s beta update, you will be able to login to the Messenger with your phone number and can now also create a new account from the settings page of the app.

If you have access to Facebook pages, you can now manage the chats more efficiently. The new version also comes with the usual small batch of fixes. Here’s the full changelog:

  • Facebook has revamped the login experience.
  • There’s finally an option search for keywords in messages.
  • Settings page has been updated.
  • Adds support for Data Saver to disable automatic downloading of media contents.
  • Allows you to add a new mobile number to the Messenger platform.
  • You can now create a new account from the settings page.
  • Introduces improved chat management for Facebook pages.

That’s pretty much it. If you use Facebook Messenger often, you can head to the Microsoft Store and grab the update.

Microsoft recently started pushing out the new Live Tile feature for the To-Do application on Windows 10. The company has been testing this feature with Windows Insiders for a little while now.

Today, the company is pushing out a new update for its Microsoft To-Do on Windows 10 which advances the app to new version 1.48.2102.0 and introduces new features.

After the latest update, users will now be able to pin lists to the Start Menu. To pin the list to the Start Menu, you would need to right click and select “Pin to Start”.

The Live Tile will now show the first three items in the list and if the Live Tile is larger, you will be able to see as many as seven items. You will also be able to pin the lists to the Start Menu by just clicking on the Microsoft To-Do Live Tile.

Microsoft has also improved the accessibility to allow groups to be compressed and expanded into smart lists. The last update to the To-Do app had removed the ability to move a list activity while searching.

Now with the new update, the company has also restored the ability when you search. There are more improvements made to the new Windows Ink gesture in the latest update.

The company has also fixed an important bug related to the display of the order of the lists along with pushing out some other under the hood bug fixes and performance improvements.

The latest update to the Microsoft To-Do is currently live and you can download it now by going to the Microsoft Store if you have the app installed on your Windows 10 devices.

In 2017, Microsoft launched Cortana Device Setup app which allows users to configure devices like Harman Kardon Invoke speaker with Windows 10 PCs. Late last week, it appears that Microsoft quietly updated the Cortana Device Setup app with support for Surface Headphones.

Microsoft Store page says that app works with Cortana-enabled devices, including the Surface Headphones and Harman Kardon Invoke.

We noticed that Microsoft’s support document for Surface Headphones was updated on January 11, 2019, to highlight the Cortana Device Setup app integration. The document states that users can grab the app from the Microsoft Store to change the language, configure the equalizer, and keep the headphones up to date.

The app would also allow you to find the serial number and you can also access the list of the devices that have been paired to work with your headphones.

Surface Headphones app

To use Surface Headphones and Cortana Device Setup together, download the app from the Store and follow the instructions. You can check the language used on your Surface Headphones from the Preferences section in the app. Microsoft says that it takes a few minutes to download and install the selected language.

If you’re interested, you can download the updated Cortana Device Setup app from the Microsoft Store here.

Surface Headphones

Unveiled back in October 2018, the Surface Headphones are a new addition to Microsoft’s hardware lineup. The headphones are powered by Microsoft’s digital assistant Cortana and the device comes with adjustable noise cancellation technology.

Surface Headphone

Microsoft’s Surface Headphones are available for order in the United States and the United Kingdom. A pair of the headphones can be ordered for $350 via Microsoft Store, and it’s a decent price, considering what they have to offer.

The Cortana enabled Surface headphones are designed to provide up to 15 hours of battery life and it works over Bluetooth. The company says that the headphones can be fully charged in less than 2 hours.

It’s important to note that the Surface Headphones are compatible with Windows 10, iOS and Android devices, but you can use them with other devices via the Bluetooth connectivity.

Sticky Notes for Windows 10 has been regularly receiving updates from Microsoft with new features and general improvements. Microsoft is currently working on releasing a major update for Sticky Notes with new features which are currently under internal testing.

Sticky Notes for Windows 10 could receive image support feature in the next update which may allow users to embed photos to their notes. This feature was teased by Microsoft’s engineer Jen Gentleman on Twitter.

The feature appears to be tested by Microsoft internally and it could be released out to the Insiders soon. After testing the update with Insiders, Microsoft is expected to push the feature to the public soon.

The Image Support feature is also expected to include options to save the picture to the device. Users will also be allowed to open the image in the Photos apps on Windows 10 and will also be able to delete the image completely from the note.

Sticky Notes image feature

Microsoft is also working on allowing users to add extra text in the note below or above the image and there will be formatting options to customize the experience. The image embedded in the Sticky notes will be available for display both in the note and the list of notes.

Sticky Notes in previous updates received many new features like support for Microsoft Account allowing users to sync the notes between devices by logging in with the same Microsoft Account.

We had earlier reported that Microsoft is also working on introducing a mobile version of the Sticky Notes app allowing users to make note of important details on the go.

Microsoft has already launched Sticky Notes on the web allowing users to see the notes from within the browser and is working on bringing Sticky Notes in OneNote as well.

Earlier today, Microsoft updated the Android App Launcher with Sticky Notes integration. This allows users to access the Sticky Notes content from anywhere at any time if the app is logged into the same Microsoft account on PC, phone and web.

We are currently not sure as to when the new update is expected to be pushed out to public users as there has been no ETA announced by the company.

In the fast ring of Windows Insider program, Microsoft has recently announced Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18282 which is a part of the 19H1 release. This update is expected to come out sometime in March or April of 2019.

In this update, there are lots of exciting new changes such as a true light theme which changes the look of everything including Start, Taskbar, Notification background to white color. This update also brings new screen snipping tool, improved printing experience, Windows update setting improvements, updated screen brightness settings, improvements to narrator and tons of other changes.

In this article, we are going to discuss the new screen snipping tool and printing experience.

New screen snipping tool

Windows 10 Snipping Window

With the release of October 2018 update, Microsoft had introduced an advanced screen snipping tool which can be activated by pressing ‘Win key+shift+S’ or ‘Print screen’ or by directly by opening the app called ‘Snip & Sketch’. But there is still room for a lot of improvements. So, based on users’ feedback Microsoft has added two new things to the ‘Snip & sketch’ app.

  1. A delay snip option
  2. Windows snip mode

The improved Snip & Sketch app with window snip mode is available to Insiders for testing and feedback.

The delay snip option will allow users to delay the snip for a few seconds. Right now there is only two options available – 3 seconds and 10 seconds. The windows snip mode will allow users to snip the one specific windows at one click and these snip settings will be remembered by the system for future use.

It’s worth noting that this updated ‘Snip & Sketch’ app is shipped to only 50% of Insiders and it will be released to the general public soon.

New printing tool

Printing experience

Microsoft has also improved the printing experience with Windows 10 build 18282.

  1. As we have mentioned earlier, the new light theme is here and the modern print dialog will also appear lighter now.
  2. For improving clarity, Microsoft has updated a number of printing options to now include icons to help users easily and quickly identify them.
  3. A line of description to some of the drop-down settings are added. This can be seen in the more settings option at the bottom of the print dialogue box.
  4. If the printer name is long, now it will wrap rather than being cut off.

Which of these exciting new features are most interesting to you? Let us know in the comments below.

Microsoft To-Do is the company’s utility app that was released last year for Windows 10, Android and iOS. Microsoft says that To-Do is a simple and intelligent utility app and it also syncs the content between mobile devices and Windows 10 PCs.

Microsoft’s To-Do is a must have utility app and it’s getting better with each app update. Today’s update for Microsoft To-Do on Windows 10 has added some new features and improved the overall experience.

The last update for To-Do added Schedule Sorting feature and today’s update has improved the sorting methods. You can now use themes and colours to customize the look and feel of the scheduled list.

There’s another new option that allows you to hide your empty smart lists automatically. If enabled, you will no longer see the planned and important lists on the sidebar. This update also includes improvements for performance and synchronization feature.

Microsoft To-Do, as the name suggests, is a to-do list app that combines intelligent technology and beautiful design to help you prepare the work schedule.

Microsoft Word and To-Do integration

Word and ToDo

Microsoft recently announced that the Word app will be updated with To-Do integration that would users to view the list of their remaining to-dos while working on Word document. For example, you can note down the things in Microsoft To-Do from any device and you will be able to edit the Word document, fill-in additional information to complete the document.

You can type ‘TODO: finish this section or <>’ and Word would recognise and track them as to-dos, explained Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365. In other words, you would need to mention to-dos within a placeholder and Word would track them with a deep link to the relevant list.

This feature will be rolled out to Word on Windows, Mac and web for Office 365 subscribers.

Microsoft To-Do Android app update

The latest Insider build for Microsoft To-Do on Android brings support for multiple accounts which allows you to add a different Microsoft account to the app and you can switch between them easily.

All these changes are useful for customers using Microsoft To-Do for their productivity needs.

Twitter remains committed to its PWA (Progressive Web App) initiative and the company quietly pushed a new update to its PWA on Windows 10 with some much-needed improvements.

As noted by Twitter in release notes, the PWA was updated on November 5th 2018 with support for events and more. You can access the events page to find out what’s happening on Twitter by tapping on the search icon located at the top of the screen.

This update has improved the messaging experience on Twitter as you can now drag and drop 1 video or photo in a DM. Twitter has also improved the “Share via Direct Message” feature if it’s operated from the share menu on a Tweet.

The last change is the ‘followers you know’ section that gives you more context on who you might know from their followers.

  • We added support for events that are happening on Twitter! Check this out by clicking or tapping on the search icon.
  • Direct message (DM) improvements: (1) you can now drag and drop 1 video or photo in a DM. (2) We improved the users recommended when you click on “Share via Direct Message” from the share menu on a Tweet.
  • We’ve added followers you know when you visit a profile or hover over a user’s handle or name. This gives you more context on who you might know from their followers.

The update is entirely focused on improving messaging and content discovery features. The changes are already live and you don’t have to update the app from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft and PWA

Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that Microsoft Store will slowly get popular Progressive Web Apps and the company also added support for PWAs on Edge browser with Windows 10 update. The PWAs on Windows 10 acts as a web app but supports the native APIs and features such as Action Center and Share UI integration.

The PWAs are deeply integrated into Windows 10 which makes it possible to get certain native app functions like notifications.

Microsoft is also using Bing crawler to find and index the PWAs in the Windows 10 app store and it’s a great way to address the app gap issue.
