Not a while ago the folks at Windows Central reported that Microsoft was actually envisioning some sort of pen support on mobile devices, bringing along some leaked documentation and videos of an early Lumia 950 concept with pen support.

Today, ProtoBetaTest managed to get their hands on a Lumia prototype with an early implementation of pen support. The Lumia 950 as we know is quite different, actally boring compared to what the device could have been, even thought the device brought a lot of different and powerful features.

The guys at ProtoBetaTest made a video showcasing the pen functionality on the device, and even though is a bit rough it still looks good and quite functional considering the early state of the prototype development.

As of ProtoBetaTest, the device supports multiple pens and eraser, and it’s one of the earliest Lumia 950 prototype. The pen used in the video is the one from the Surface Pro 4, and the screen of the device appears to be using the same N-trig technology used in later Surface models.

To be honest, I feel almost disappointed such a great feature was pulled off, but maybe there was a good reason behind that, or that might be coming to a future device eventually, if there’s gonna be one.

Rumors a while ago reported that Microsoft was building some sort of tab-based version of Windows Explorer for the upcoming version of Windows 10. Early builds came out but still there was no trace of that. Indeed with the release of the Creators Update also came the confirmation that after all, maybe it was just a rumor. But someone went ahead and built a software that makes you do that and more.

This is Stardock Groupy, and it’s rolling out to beta testing right now.

In the paragraph above I wrote that this software makes you group Windows Explorer tabs and more, actually it can group any software that has a window. Of course, it’s not just for one app. You can mix and tab windows of every software, meaning that you can tab together the Windows Command Line and Spotify, in multiple tabs of each. But that was just an example, because you can literally tab every software running in a window.

And it works on Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.

Using the app can be a little tricky and perhaps you may accidentally create new groups, but getting used to it you’ll use this product as a powerful productivity software. This can come particulary handy when dealing with small screen devices.

The software will also not defer normal using of the Windows Shell, you may still alt+tab to get the focus to the selected app, and the other shortcuts will work aswell.

The app will come out next month for $10 but if you are a Object Desktop customer, you can try out the beta right now.

Today, in a quite serious blog post, Microsoft officials annouced that Groove Music Pass and it’s related services will be discountinued starting October 9, 2017.  The company also announced that it will be partnering along with Spotify to move the existing Groove Music Pass customers to the most used music streaming service.

The service had a rough live, starting with Zune Music, later being rebranded to Xbox Music in 2014 and finally to Groove Music with the rollout of the first version of Windows 10.

Microsoft will continue to support Groove Music Pass until December 31, 2017, and after that date an update will be pushed for the app stopping users from streaming, purchasing or downloading music from the app and from the Microsoft Store. Starting this week, an update for the app will roll out to Insiders bringing the new migration experience to Insiders. The same update will begin to roll out to public next week.

The migration will move all existing music collections, purchased content and playlists to Spotify, and more information about the Groove Music service discontinuation/migration is available in these FAQs.

The company is not leaving the Groove Music app though, that will continue to run and offer local and OneDrive music playback and management of owned content to all Windows devices, so if you never bought or used a Groove Music Pass you’ll notice no changes. And after the December 31, the app will stop offering and advertising all services related to Groove Music Pass.

Seems like Verizon has pulled the plug on the Microsoft Lumia 735. Verizon was one of the few carriers that was still selling Windows phone devices, but as we all know, Windows devices aren’t really popular right now. Microsoft also made a specific version of the Lumia 735 for Verizon, rebranding the device from Nokia to Microsoft and then adding the carrier’s logo on both sides of the device.

Today the Verizon Lumia 735 disappeared from Verizon’s online listing, but it’s still listed on the US Microsoft Store, even thought this device, like many others, has been out of stock for a long while. And as far as we know, the situation will never change.

It’s even discounted to $129 from $199. Right now other carriers are selling devices HP Elite x3 or the Alcatel Idol 4S, so it was only a question of time until Verizon was going to cut Windows devices from the listings.

Recently, the folks working on OneNote have been pretty busy. Besides all the new features brought to the Windows 10 app, with this month’s update on Office 365 Microsoft is introducing the Draw tab on OneNote Online. You can now make your mark with ink or highlighter while taking notes online. Even though compared to the app it’s not the same set of features, inking and drawing online seems more simple, but as you’re still in a browser you won’t have all those fancy effects.

The March rollout also brings some other features for the app, such as the Accessibility Checker, which will help you ensure that your notes are accessible by everyone, and the app can now graph handwritten equations.

You can check the full list of improvements for this month’s release here

Today, Microsoft Account services went black again after the outage happened few weeks ago. This time, the blackout affected (and still seems to affect) login services required to use the most common Microsoft services like Onedrive, Xbox and Outlook.

Microsoft stated in the Office status page that a fix for the issue has been deployed, but there is some residual impact, which is supposed to fade within few hours.

If you still have problems, keep trying. We’re gonna update this post when the service completely restores

As of what emerges from this internal slides (thanks MSPoweruser), the police corp is trying to push on UWP to increase the efficiency of police officers by processing incident reports digitally and directly into the police database. This also describes how UWP will operate on different devices, running from a reduced UI on phone devices to a full and complete GUI on desktops. As we’re talking about enterprise-level environments, the most common complaints against Windows 10 Mobile, such as variours 3rd party apps missing from the Store, won’t matter, because the thing that matters here is the interaction between the device and the backend system.

In this case, each handset appears to have cost around 110€.
