Microsoft might be planning to kill off the Lumia brand soon, although the company hasn’t yet officially confirmed this, it keeps dropping hints that Lumia is discontinued. Microsoft last year removed all Lumia phones from their online store including the Lumia 650 and as well as the flagship Lumia 950 phone, the decision made perfect sense since Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows Phone has no future.

The first signs that the end was approaching for Lumia came back in 2015 when Microsoft launched the premium-looking Lumia 650 for an expensive price tag, and this handset was said to be the last Windows Phone from the company. Since then, Microsoft is no longer developing any Lumia phones, while the company is believed to be working on mythical Surface Phone.

Today, we have discovered that Microsoft US Store has once again started selling the Lumia Windows Phones, including the flagship Lumia 950 for $399, Lumia 950 XL for $499, Lumia 550 and Lumia 650 for $139 and $199 respectively.

A Microsoft Store sales agent confirmed to us that Lumia phones are back in the store on February 4 after a long gap. “They are recently back this early February. Specifically, on February 4th 2018,” Microsoft sales team told us.

If the rumours were believed to be true, Microsoft had planned to sell as many Lumias as possible while stocks last, but it looks like the plans have changed or the company is selling the remaining stock which they recently discovered.

You can buy Lumia 950 from here and Lumia 950 XL from here. Microsoft is also offering a special discount on Lumia 650 for students, while for everyone else, it’s available for $199 from here and Lumia 550 from here.

The future of Lumia brand is dark, as the software giant is working on a mobile type device under the Surface brand, the high-end flagship Windows 10 device is expected to debut in 2018, though official details are not yet available. Recent reports have indicated that the company is planning to debut the foldable Andromeda in the second half of 2018.

While Microsoft is no longer selling the Lumia 950/950 XL and the platform itself is dead, a company is suing the Redmond giant for using its LED design in Microsoft Lumia 950s, the company’s last flagship Windows Phone.

Thereport claims that earlier this week, a entity has sued Microsoft, the lawsuit is over the Lumia 950 & 950 XLs, the firm says that the flagship Windows Phones have the LED technology patented by them.

On Tuesday, Lemairenation Technologies LLC sued Microsogt claiming that the Washington-based company has infringed total three patents relating to LED technology, the entity filed the complaint in U.S. District Court in Marshall, Texas. Apparently, Microsoft hasn’t issued a statement about the patents infringement.

As noted above, the company is suing Microsoft over the LED technology which is used in Lumia 950 as triple LED flash on the back rear panel. Not only Microsoft but Lemaire Illumination Technologies LLC also sued LG over the LED flash. And the company may be already planning to sue the other tech giants which could have used their technology.

Microsoft recently announced that Windows Phone hardware and software are dead, while Lumia 950 & 950 XL is still actively used by the Windows Phone users and the device is also available for purchase at several online stores.

With the Fall Creators Update slowly rolling out for PCs, Microsoft has shed some light on the update for Mobile devices. Currently rolling out for Insiders on the Release Preview Ring, the update doesn’t add anything major. With a few bug fixes, the update is more of a cumulative update than a feature update.

Today, Microsoft has released the list of eligible devices which will receive the Fall Creators Update and surprisingly, the ever popular Lumia 640 and 640XL didn’t make the cut. Introduced way back in 2015, the Lumia 640 series was a fantastic phone and was one of the few devices to receive the Creators Update. With the new announcements, the users of the devices, if any of them still cares, will no doubt be upset.

The list of devices which will receive the Fall Creators Update are listed on the Microsoft Support page and it is quite small. Barring a handful of Microsoft Lumias like the 550, 650 and the 950 & 950XL, there are only a few known phones from HP and Alcatel. Interestingly the HP Elite x3 for Verizon is listed on the list of supported devices, and it looks like the phone is finally coming.

The users stranded on Lumia 640 & 640XL can still get the Fall Creators Update by signing into the Insider Program and join the Fast Ring. Or they can keep their devices on the Creators Update and receive bug fixes. Honestly speaking, you aren’t missing out much. The new feature update only includes a couple of fixes and some new emojis. With Windows Phone sunsetted, users should probably move on to Android or iOS, or stop expecting any new features for their loved Windows Phone.

Microsoft-Nokia were working on yet another Windows RT tablet under the Lumia brand, called Lumia 2020. After Microsoft discontinued the production of Surface 2, the company later also stopped producing the Lumia 2520 and it was finally discontinued in 2015.

Nokia was also working on Lumia 2020 with Windows RT operating system but as the Lumia 2520 wasn’t successful, the company cancelled the Lumia device. Last year, an image depicting the Lumia 2020 was leaked online and today almost everything about the cancelled Lumia device has been revealed.

Nokia Lumia 2020 – Images and Specs

Codenamed Illusionist, the Lumia 2020 runs Windows RT (ARM32) operating system. It has an 8.3-inch 1080p LCD display and Polycarbonate shell on the back of the device, just like any Lumia Windows Phone.

It has Snapdragon 800 (8974) 2.15GHz inside and Qualcomm Adreno 330 for graphics. The best feature on the Lumia 2020 is its camera. On the back, the Lumia 2020 features a 19MP PureView camera while it has a 1MP shooter on the front. It is quite surprising that Microsoft had planned a good camera for a tablet and it actually clicks decent pictures. The device features 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The device features 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Looking at the specs chart, it appears that the Lumia 2020 would have been a cheap device. Microsoft should have worked on a Lumia 2020 like device with Windows 10 (ARM) as the design and features of the Lumia 2020 looks solid.

Microsoft discontinued Windows RT due to its poor adoption and in 2017 the company is once again planning to launch the ARM-powered PCs with Windows 10 but this time it is more likely to be successful.

Owned by Microsoft and previously Nokia, Lumia is a range of smartphones with Windows Phone operating system. Introduced in November 2011 in a partnership between Microsoft and Nokia, the Lumia line was for increasing the reach of Windows Phone operating system.

Microsoft Lumia technically didn’t really fail. Microsoft didn’t try nearly as hard they did with their other products such as Windows. The Lumia phones aren’t worse than the competitors’ products. If Microsoft had invested time and money to promote Lumia, it would have been a successful brand. Both Nokia and Microsoft committed common marketing strategy mistake, the drop in sales is primarily driven by Microsoft’s lack of new Lumia devices.

Today, a Redditor spotted that Microsoft Lumia official YouTube channel has been shut down. It is not surprising as Microsoft has given up on the Lumia lineup and the company is already working on a new mobile device under the Surface brand.

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed that Lumia is dead but if we take the inactivity of Lumia social accounts and today’s closure of the YouTube channel into consideration, the Lumia lineup does seem to be dead.

Windows Phone YouTube channel is inactive but it hasn’t been closed yet. It, after all, makes sense as Microsoft will rebrand the Windows Phone YouTube channel to something else when the Surface Phone launches.

Windows Phone may not be dead but Microsoft has finally given on Lumia lineup in the US. The Microsoft Lumia 735 has been the only first-party Windows Phone the company was selling at its online store.

Today, Microsoft has removed the Lumia 735 from its online store listing. The company had listed the smartphone as out of stock and surprisingly the Lumia 735 cannot be viewed anymore on the all mobile phones page. Furthermore, the Lumia 735 is not available on Verizon’s website.

Microsoft has already given up on the Lumia lineup, nevertheless, the company was still selling the Lumia 735. Now only the third-party Windows Phones are listed on Microsoft’s mobile phones page.

Recently, Cricket Wireless also stopped selling the Lumia 635 and the trend was later followed by Verizon. You can still get a third-party Windows Phone from Microsoft, while only four options are available that includes Alcatel Idol 4S, HP Elite x3, Acer Liquid M330 and Liquid Jade Primo Bundle.

Lumia 960 was supposed to be Lumia 950’s successor but Microsoft cancelled the device along with Lumia 750, 850. The Lumia 950 had many flaws and it was criticized by the tech reviewers. Although, the Lumia 960 looks like a premium device because of the aluminum unibody. The recent leaks revealed how Microsoft’s successor to Lumia 950 flagship phone could’ve looked like.

Last we saw leak images of Microsoft Lumia 960 on a Chinese website. The specifications of the device was also revealed. Today, yet another set of the images have been leaked on a Chinese website that reveals the complete design of Lumia 960. The new Lumia 960 prototype images reveal a aluminum body.

The leaked images only show the back of the phone and it seems the display of the prototype is missing. Although, the front panel of the phone was leaked earlier. The phone features a 20MP rear camera and a triple LED flash. The device would have had a Iris Scanner, 5.5-inch display with 2K resolution, 4GB of RAM. It would have been equipped with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820.

Microsoft hasn’t given up on Windows Phone. The Redmond giant is planning for a Windows Phone reboot with a new hardware but nothing is real yet. Windows 10 Mobile will receive major improvements with CShell. The company is actually working on Windows 10 OS for Mobiles with scaled UX. It will be done with new CShell, an ‘adaptive shell’ that scale Windows 10 to any form depending on the screen size of the device.

Do you think the Lumia 960 could’ve saved the Microsoft’s mobile business?

We all know about the retrenchment strategy of Microsoft’s phone business that CEO Satya Nadella has stated a couple of years back. After that Microsoft first released few unreleased Lumia in the market , then we saw the production halt to the old Lumias which brought every Microsoft store with shortage of phones on store. It is said that done Microsoft will be able to completely sell their remaining handsets by the end of June.

So today Microsoft has removed the three of the four Lumia listings on the US Microsoft Store website. These were the unlocked Lumia 950, the AT&T variant of the 950, and the 950 XL. Which means now we have only Verizon’s Lumia 735 left in the US Store listing which itself is out of stock. There are other non-Lumia Windows phones like HP’s Elite x3 and Alcatel’s IDOL 4S which are the latest flagships for the windows 10 mobile which you can buy. The availability of these phones is also limited to only certain markets. While there are some lower-end devices Acer Liquid M330 which also are limited to only certain markets.

So it looks like that this is the end we all hoped not for the Windows 10 Mobile for consumers as Microsoft has already said it wont receive any new feature.

We had earlier reported that Microsoft had sold out all of its Lumia on its Online Store. However the Lumia were back in stock a week later with a decent amount of stock. But now currently all the listed Lumia are now out of stock.

Microsoft had earlier announced that it is not going to manufacture or sell any first party phone by end of this fiscal year, meaning end of June. Hence we could presume that the company does not have plans to restock the Lumia Phones.

Microsoft had announced that it will be launching a new Windows 10 Phone by the end of this year with a new Software CShell which the company is currently testing internally, the glimpses of which we had reported in our earlier article.
