Microsoft’s strategy of bringing its core apps on rival platforms seems to be working with most of the apps now already available and very popular on iOS and Android devices.
One of the most popular app on Android is the company’s Word Mobile app which has now reached a new milestone in terms of downloads. The app has now reached 500 million downloads in the Google Play Store and is the most successful application on Android devices.
The download figure is no gimmick. The Google Play Store listing itself confirms that the Microsoft Word has been installed on more than 500 million Android devices including smartphones and tablets.
This could come as good news for Microsoft which has been trying very hard to bring most of its applications on Android and iOS devices since it had recently confirmed the end of development for its own mobile platform.
The application currently holds an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 with nearly 2 million users posting reviews on the Google Play Store.
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) are updated on Android and iOS on a regular basis with improvements.
Microsoft has been trying to bring Android and Windows 10 closer together after discontinuing Windows 10 Mobile operating system. The company is also testing a new feature which will allow users to resume the work on Microsoft apps from any device.
The Continue on PC is Microsoft’s first step to make bridging your life between Windows 10 devices and Android easier. The Continue on PC allows users to work seamlessly between your Android phone and Windows 10. At the moment, the feature is limited to Microsoft Launcher and Edge browser, but the company is reportedly planning to launch Continue on PC support for Office apps.
Continue on PC is similar to the Handoff feature on Apple products. For example, you’ll be able to edit your Microsoft Word document or PowerPoint presentation on phone from where you left off on the desktop. Continue on PC support for Microsoft Office suite will reportedly arrive soon.
