With the beginning of another year, Microsoft seems to be in no mood to uplift the hopes of Windows Phone fans. If you are looking to buy a new Windows Phone, you are now limited to only two options.

As spotted first by Neowin, the Microsoft Store now only lists two available Windows Phones. Previously four, the options are now restricted to the ridiculously expensive HP Elite x3 and the affordable Alcatel IDOL 4S. Both of them are the last released flagships for Windows 10 Mobile, sporting similar hardware.

The devices removed are the Acer Liquid Jade Primo and Liquid M330. While the Jade Primo is a flagship, the M330 is a low-end device. However, due to poor support from Acer, neither of the phones will receive any more updates. The Jade Primo is still stuck to version 1511 and the M330 is stuck on 1607.

However, if you are looking for anything but Windows Phones, Microsoft has a lot to offer. Ranging from Xbox to Surface and other PCs, there’s a lot to choose from the Windows 10 ecosystem. If you are dead set to get a phone, there are quite a number of Android powered devices available too, more than that of the available Windows Phones. Just visit the Microsoft Store and choose your pick.

Windows Phone
There are more Android phones than Windows Phones in the Microsoft Store

You can get the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ and the Note 8. Also available is the Razer Phone. All of the Android devices are branded as “Compatible with Microsoft Launcher App”, so you can stick to the Microsoft experience without troubling yourself by getting a Windows Mobile 10 device.

Microsoft has recently confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile is dead. If you want to stay in the Microsoft ecosystem, Android and iOS are the only ways, until the arrival of the mythical Surface Phone.

WhatsApp team has been working to improve its messaging application by releasing new features and enhancements for its application on all platforms. The team has now pushed out a new update for its WhatsApp Windows Phone application but this time with fix for Voice Messages.

The app has been updated to new version 2.17.346.0. The update comes with fix for users who have been experiencing issues with not being able to listen to Voice messages after the previous update.

Since this was a widespread issue, the team immediately worked on a fix and has pushed it to the stable version of the application. Surprisingly this issue only was experienced by the users on the stable version of the application.

Along with the fix for Voice Messages there are the general bug fixes and performance improvements made to the application. Last week we reported that the WhatsApp team has added a new Voice and Video Call UI along with the “Private Reply” feature to the Beta version of the application, which was later removed with the next new update. More info in our dedicated article here.

The latest update for the Stable version of the application comes with fix for the Voice message issue along with the usual set of bug fixes and performance improvements to the application.

The update is currently live and can be downloaded by clicking this link of Microsoft Store.

Remember Trekstor’s Windows Phone? Apparently it’s not coming to the store anytime soon. With the Indiegogo campaign barely funded and 3 days remaining, chances of getting one are pretty slim.

In case you forgot, Trekstor announced their intentions of making a Windows Phone this year. While it was scheduled to arrive sometime soon, the German company decided to set the goals rather high by announcing an Indiegogo campaign for it. All seemed good until they decided to do pull off another WhartonBrooks by setting the goal to €500,000.

For a phone which will be running a dead OS, the goal is ridiculous. Microsoft has already pulled the plug on Windows 10 Mobile, with only security patches planned. No consumer or even new enterprise firm would be willing to invest time and money in an OS do dead. That being said, Trekstor did play safe by announcing that they were targeting the existing owners and enterprise customers.

Trekstor
The Winphone 5.0

Priced at roughy $200, the Trekstor Winphone 5.0 comes with a quad core processor, 3 GB of RAM and Continuum support. The phone looked great and could have been a good candidate for people still willing to cling to Windows 10 Mobile. But it’s not happening unless someone decides to fund the remaining 90% in 3 days.

So that’s it folks. No more new Windows Phones, until Microsoft decides to do one. Kudos to Trekstor for at least trying to fight a lost battle.

WhatsApp team has finally decided to enable the most awaited feature for its more than One Billion users, “Delete for Everyone” feature. The team has been testing this feature for over a year now and has now finally enabled the feature for all users on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Web platforms.

The roll out is really slow and the feature should be available for all users in the coming days. This new feature helps users who wrongly send message to revoke or delete before it is read by the recipient.

Users would need to have the latest version of the WhatsApp to be updated for this feature to work on all platforms. This feature was earlier called as “Revoke” but later the name was changed to “Delete for everyone”.

The Delete for Everyone feature works for any type of messages like Text Message, images, videos, GIFs, Voice Message, contact cards, files, locations, quoted messages and status replies.

The Recalled or Delete for Everyone feature will be deleted in the notifications centre for recipients on iOS at the same time when you have revoked it, but you would need to have an internet connection available.

For Android users the message will be updated as “This message was deleted for everyone” text. However users will not be able to delete a message for everyone if the message has been quoted since WhatsApp doesn’t recall this type of messages currently.

The Messages sent in the Broadcast list also do not support this feature currently and might be enabled in future. Users would need to act fast to revoke or recall the sent message as the time for revoking the message is only 7 minutes after which the message cannot be revoked or recalled.

As noted above the recipient of the message has to be on the latest WhatsApp version installed to have the delete for everyone feature working.

This feature also works for users on older versions of the application but will not work for Symbian users since WhatsApp has stopped supporting the platform. You will not be notified by WhatsApp if the message has been revoked or recalled if the recipient in on Symbian device.

The feature is being enabled for all users on all platforms including iOS, Android, Windows and WhatsApp Web/Desktop. This is a server side update and users will not be seeing any update in the respective app stores.

Do let us know if any of our users have got the “Delete for Everyone” feature activated on their phones, in the comments below. Make sure to mention the platform and device you are using.

WhatsApp team has pushed out a new update for its Stable version of the application for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. The app has been bumped to new version 2.7.304.0.

The team has introduced couple of new features which have been in testing in the Beta application for some time now. The team had earlier in the week updated its Beta App with the new Text Status feature. The Text Status feature is similar to the “WhatsApp Stories” feature were in users can upload their status in “text format” instead of the already available Image, GIF and Video format. You would need to click on the “My Status” option, then tap on the new pencil icon and write your “Status” in text format. The “Text Status” feature will be visible to your contacts for 24 hours similar to the WhatsApp Status feature. (Screenshots Below)

The Latest update also comes with another important feature “Emoji search” feature. Users will now be able to search and share their favourite emoji with their friends and families. You would need to “Tap” on the search icon in the left of the screen and type the word of the favourite emoji you like to send.

The search option will pop up the most relevant emoji’s for you to share them with your friends. For Example if you type “Hello” you will find the most relevant emoji’s for the word “Hello”. (Screenshots below).

These features have been in testing in the Beta application for some time now and have now been pushed out to the stable version of the application.

The WhatsApp team has added the “Share Live Location” feature for all users on iOS and Android last week and we hope the Live location feature will be coming to the Windows Phone Application sooner than later.

The latest update for the WhatsApp application is currently live and you can download it by clicking the below Store link.

Remember WhartonBrooks? The company shot up into news when they unveiled their first Windows Phone, the Cerulean Moment. Sadly their first attempt ended in a failure, as the Indigogo campaign ended in a failure.

It seems that one failure was not enough to dampen their spirits as WhartonBrooks have yet again teased another phone. Spotted on their Brazilian Facebook page, it appears to be a Windows Phone, again.

WhartonBrooks

Spotted first on Reddit, the phone looks like a poorly done render by an amateur. Readers would remember their last attempt at mobile was a complete failure. The Indigogo campaign failed to generate any excitement.

The phone looks like it has a metal unibody design, and that’s good. It appears to be running Windows 10 Mobile. As for the specifications, we have no clue. It’s just a reveal, maybe a tease or just a render to excite the small fanbase.

With Andromeda OS coming up, it seems foolish to release a Windows 10 Mobile powered phone now. Microsoft has killed off it’s phone OS and is focusing on making it’s next attempt at Windows a modular OS for all devices.

Nevertheless, we wonder. Why would WhartonBrooks want to make a Windows Phone at a time when Microsoft has declared it dead? Is it just a render as the picture suggests, or will the enthusiastic OEM finally release a Windows Phone? We would advise people to take WhartonBrooks’ tease with caution, because, you know, right?

The rumours of the flagship Elite x3 being discontinued was recently denied by HP. It appears that HP is still interested in expanding the Elite x3 to Verizon network and if the rumours are believed to be true, it will be available by mid-October.

HP Elite x3 is an old Windows 10 Mobile but it is still popular among the fans. At the time of launch, the phone only supported the GSM bands, as a result the Verizon model was never released.

HP recently submitted the Elite x3 Verizon model to Bluetooth SIG, FCC and WIFI Org for certification. The Elite x3 is now listed on the development site of Verizon revealing the details of the flagship Windows 10 Mobile.

The Elite x3 now also supports CDMA (800 MHz, 1900 MHz) and as well as LTE. As spotted by our reader Paul Siracusa, HP has recently updated the Elite x3 product page confirming that the device supports Verizon’s 4G LTE in the United States.

As more and more details of the HP Elite x3 Verizon are showing up, we can expect the device to be launched in the coming weeks or months. Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile is going to be supported until the end of 2019, it makes sense to buy the flagship HP Elite x3 as it is also one of the best flagship Windows Phone in 2017.
