Microsoft last week rolled out a new update for default Mail app on Windows 10 PCs and Windows 10 Mobile. With the latest update for the Mail app, Microsoft is once again phasing out the references to Windows 10 Mobile, the company’s discontinued mobile platform.

Interestingly, the latest update for Mail app has replaced the default signature “Sent from Windows 10 Mobile” with “Sent from my Windows 10 device,” as the latter makes more sense.

It certainly makes sense as Microsoft is slowly phasing out Windows 10 Mobile and the company will stop delivering security updates to the operating system in late 2019. The “Windows 10 device” signature will promote all Windows 10 devices instead of just Windows 10 Mobile.

It’s worth noting that you can always edit the signature from the Mail app settings and revert the changes.

Microsoft to end support for Windows 10 Mobile in 2019

Windows 10 Mobile is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft that no longer has a future but there are users sticking with it, for the time being. Some have switched to Android or iOS and others are waiting for the Microsoft Andromeda, the dual-screen device

Windows 10 Mobile impressed in several regards and there are lots of people who continue using it. The lack of app support is still a deal-breaker for many users and while it’s getting worse, Microsoft hopes that the Progressive Web App will eventually contribute to the growth of Windows Store.

Even without any big updates, Windows Phone works really well in 2018 apparently because Microsoft is still updating the essential apps for those who want to use the phone for basic stuff. Unfortunately, for other basic stuff, you’ll have to stick with web-based versions of most services.

Telegram today rolled out a new update for its Windows Phone application with new features. The update is available for the stable version of the application on Windows Phone. The latest update pushes the app to new version 3.20.

Telegram has introduced “Telegram Passport” to all Windows users with the latest update. Telegram Passport is a new and unified authorization method which requires personal identification. You will be able to upload your documents to Telegram Passport and share them to the services which require real time authentication.

The documents or personal data stored in Telegram Passport, a cloud service, is supported with End to End encryption. End to End encryption is supported with a password which can be known by you only and Telegram doesn’t have access to the data stored in Telegram passport.

Sharing the data to the recipient is also secured with End to End encryption and the data shared directly goes to the recipient. To enable the new Telegram Passport you would need to first go to ePayments.com, the first electronic payments system which supports registration and verification with Telegram Passport.

Once done you would need to upload your documents and then go to Settings>Privacy & Security>Telegram Passport to access your data. To try out the new Telegram Passport feature you would need to be on the latest version 3.2 of Telegram Messenger available in the Microsoft Store.

Telegram is expected to add more new features like third party authentication to the Telegram Passport in upcoming updates. The latest update is live in the Microsoft Store and you can download it by going to the Microsoft Store>Downloads and Updates>Get Update.

We have been hearing news recently of a lot of fake posts being circulated in WhatsApp which have created panic among people. The Government of India has been in constant touch with the developers of WhatsApp to make sure that such fake news is not circulated via its Messaging platform which is used by millions of users around the globe.

To try and restrict fake posts through its messaging platform, WhatsApp has been working on a new feature “Forwarded Label” for some time now. The new feature helps in finding out the origin of the message.

The company is now rolling out the new feature via a server update to all platforms at the same time. The users will be seeing a “Forwarded” symbol on top of the message which has been sent by their friends and family members. The symbol makes it easy to identify that the message received is a forwarded message and has not be written by the person who has sent it.

The users would need to be on the latest version of WhatsApp to be able to get the new “Forwarded Label” feature. Since the activation is through the servers of WhatsApp, users will not be seeing any update in their respective stores.

We have been able to verify that the feature is already active on Windows Phones. The feature is being rolled to the stable versions of the application on all platforms. The Beta version of WhatsApp on Windows Phone has also received this feature.

WhatsApp recently published an article in the newspapers in India in regards to the precautions to be taken in believing the fake news and how the users need to check the genuity of the news before forwarding the messages.

WhatsApp says that it cares deeply about its users safety. “We encourage you to think before sharing messages that were forwarded. As a reminder, you can report spam or block a contact in one tap and can always reach out to WhatsApp directly for help,” the company said.

Microsoft is said to be working with WhatsApp on a new UWP app for Windows 10 devices, including the rumoured, Andromeda. The official UWP flavour of the instant messaging client is specifically being prepared to run on all form factors, like laptops.

The concept photos were published on Behance by a Microsoft designer suggesting that the software giant is working with Facebook-owned WhatsApp to port the app from Silverlight to UWP, and it also provides us with a glimpse into how the new app for Windows 10 could look like.

“We want them to bring their app to Windows 10 desktop and integrate unique Windows 10 features like Ink and Fluent Design. The project had [a] successful result which led to WhatsApp partnering with Microsoft, and we earned high praise from the WhatsApp team,” the designer said.

WhatsApp has been the only company which has been dedicated in supporting the now almost dead Windows platform. The team of developers have been regularly working to add more new features to the platform to bring it on par with the application on iOS and Android.

The WhatsApp developer team recently updated its beta application for Windows Phone with the new “Live Location” feature which was missing from the platform for a while now.

The team after successfully testing the feature on the beta application has now today pushed out the feature to the stable version of the WhatsApp application to be accessible by more Windows Phone users.

The new “Live Location” feature lets you share the location in real time with your family and friends. The Live Location feature can be shared with an individual or group of friends for a time limit ranging from 5 mins, 15 mins and more.

Users sharing the Live Location feature will be getting a pop up which brings them the option to stop the Live Location feature at any time if they are not willing to share the Live Location any more.

You will be able to know as to whom you have shared the live location feature by going to the group or chat info page of the application. You will be able to share the live location in chats and groups and for this to be enabled you would need to go to an individual chat, click on the Attach icon, Select Location, Live Location.

Sharing a location could make users feel that their privacy will be compromised. But WhatsApp has made sure that the privacy issue doesn’t arise by ensuring that the shared live location is protected by the end to end encryption similar to the chats on WhatsApp between individuals and group members which cannot be viewed by anyone, not even the developers.

The latest update to the WhatsApp application is currently rolling out with version 2.18.126 and is available for download for all Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile users from the Microsoft Store.

One of the largest banks, Bank of America has decided to pull the plug from its Windows 10 app available in the Microsoft Store. Bank of America is not the only company that has decided to abandon Microsoft’s platform, others also hardly find a reason to stick around any longer.

Interestingly, Bank of America’s UWP Windows 10 app will stop working on both desktops and Windows Phones. It’s not yet known why Bank of America has decided to end support for its app and the company hasn’t released any statement either.

Bank of America is one of some well-known companies that brought their apps to Windows devices. The bank’s app for Windows Phone is available in the Store for a couple of years now. BoA has been updating the app with all necessary changes once in a while, but this is going to end soon.

Bank of America app is still available for Windows 10, and it allows users to manage bank accounts, finances review activity, balances in checking, savings, credit card accounts, mortgage, auto loan and it manages the other features securely.

When you’ll open the Bank of America app on your Windows 10 Mobile or PC, a notification will be displayed and it’ll inform you about the change.

“Our Windows app will no longer be available at the end of July. However, you can go to bankofamerica.com to use Online Banking,” notification is displayed when launching the app.

This news should not come as a surprise to many users with another bank Deutsche Postbank bidding farewell to Microsoft’s Windows platform. The Postbank has decided to bid farewell to its official application on Windows 10 Mobile.

The company has removed the listing of its banking app from the Microsoft Store and user with the banking app installed on their Windows 10 Mobile will no longer be able to use it.

It’s quite surprising for Postbank users since there has been no prior intimation from the bank or its officials in regards to the company’s decision to discontinue its mobile banking app.

The Postbank users are being redirected to the mobile website of the bank, and you’ll be able to use the services on your web browser.

This has not been the first case with many a major banks having already withdrawn its support for the Windows 10 platform.

The Windows 10 Mobile can are however allowed to browse and operate the Postbank services in Microsoft Edge browser.

This decision doesn’t come as a surprise since previously also there have been many major companies and banks who have pulled the plug on their official Windows application due to the less percentage of users on the platform and the company itself putting Windows 10 Mobile on maintenance mode.

Microsoft had already confirmed that its Mobile version of Windows 10 is currently in maintenance mode and will continue to receive new security updates until late-2019 when the company officially plans to pull the plug completely.

The Windows 10 Mobile Deutsche Postbank users are advised to continue using the company’s mobile version of the bank’s site or move to either iOS or Android to enjoy the banking services.

Not only the developers but Microsoft itself is focusing on Android and iOS. The company is, however, working on Andromeda and if everything goes as per the schedule, the new platform called Windows Core OS and mobile-type device codenamed Andromeda will be announced later this year at a Surface event.

Microsoft is also working on Progressive Web Apps and it seems to be attracting some well-known companies.

WhatsApp is one of the few companies that are still committed to Windows Phone, and the Facebook-owned company is today rolling out a new update to its app on Microsoft’s mobile platform. Today’s update is quite a big deal as it introduces the highly-anticipated group features and other improvements.

The latest update for WhatsApp protects users from getting added to groups if they’ve left. It also introduces group description option where you can set the guidelines and other topics for the group. WhatsApp will also show the description of the group to new members at the top of the chat, just like how it displays notification about message encryption.

Facebook has added another new feature to WhatsApp on Windows Phone which allows users to catch up with the messages that mentioned you at a time when you were away from the group chat. The admins can finally remove admin permissions of other group participants, and you’ll be also able to find anyone in a group by searching.

On the other hand, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is getting the group calling feature on iOS and it will be coming to Windows Phones real soon. Facebook had announced that WhatsApp will receive the group calling feature soon, and while the official roll out hasn’t begun yet, it will happen in the coming days.

At the time of writing this story, WhatsApp has picked a segment of iOS users to test group video calling. It’s likely that the app will be soon updated on Windows Phone to support this feature.

While Microsoft Store is still struggling, but slowly more and more developers are now looking into Windows 10 simply because the company has improved the app platform in the past few months. Microsoft has been also trying to attract and convince developers.

At Build 2018 developer conference, Microsoft announced that the share of app revenue will be increased to 95% from 70%. The new revenue model would become available later this year, the company said. Needless to say, it’s one of the easiest ways to increase developers interest in Microsoft Store.

WhatsApp today released a  new update for is stable version of the application on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile. The latest update comes with new features which have already been tested on the Beta version of the application. The update bumps the app to new version 2.18.88.

The latest update comes with the privacy rules which the company had incorporated last week. The privacy related changes have been incorporated mainly for the European users who are above 16 years of age.

The European users get a notification after updating the app, once accepted they will be able to use the application on their Windows Phone. The new option is available in the settings section of the application.

Another new feature which is now available for all WhatsApp Windows Phone users is the option of “Request Account Info”. The option will help the users in getting the information that has been collected by WhatsApp. You will be able to download the data once it is made available.

WhatsApp will send you a notification once the data is ready for download and users will also be able to move the data to another service. The “Request Account Info” option can be found in the settings section of the application.

Along with introduction of GDPR related changes and Account Info download option, WhatsApp has made a minor change to the “Blocked contacts”. The Blocked contacts has now been renamed to “Manage Blocked contacts”.

The WhatsApp team has also added new set of emojis to the Windows Application which were already available on iOS and Android. The Windows Phone users will now be able to correctly view the emojis received by their friends and family on their Windows phone.

Earlier the Windows Phone users were not able to view the particular emoji sent from iPhone and Android devices as it appeared as a blank rectangular box. This will now change and the emojis will appear correctly to let the Windows Phone users react according to the received emoji.

The “Live Location” feature is also been added to the stable version of the application which is currently disabled by default and we expect the company to enable the option very soon via a server update since the Live Location feature has also not yet made it to the Beta application for Windows Phone.

Apart from the major new features the WhatsApp team has also made it a point to fix some under the hood bugs and improve the performance of the application. The latest update for the WhatsApp application is currently live and you can download it by going to the Microsoft Store.

Twitter today released a new update for its Official application on Windows 10 Mobile. The update pushes the application to new version 6.0.9.0. The latest update pushes the app to the new PWA version already available for Windows 10 PC users.

The new Twitter PWA version was recently launched on Windows 10 desktop. Microsoft has already stopped the development of Windows 10 Mobile after the release of Redstone 2. The Twitter PWA version on mobile is different from the PWA available on Windows 10 desktop in terms of the features.

The Desktop application provides users with push notifications, live tile support and more since the PWA rely on service workers to function which is not supported by Windows 10 Mobile. The service workers is supported for users with Windows 10 April 2018 update which is being rolled out to all Windows 10 PC users today.

The Mobile PWA version does not support the basic functionality like push notifications, live tile support which is a bad thing for Twitter Mobile users. The Twitter PWA on Mobile does not have a dark mode either which was available for the previous Twitter app for Windows 10 Mobile.

In spite of the Mobile application no longer providing support for notifications, the good news is that the PWA app on Windows 10 Mobile brings all the updated features which are available on other platforms like increased character support, bookmark tweets option apart from UI which is similar to the Official Android Twitter application.

Progressive Web App is a simple web app and/or web service which uses various modern web capabilities and delivers an app-like experience across the devices. The developers need not push a new update in the Microsoft Store as the new features and changes are directly updated to the PWAs from the live website and the changes are available in the PWA, without the users needing to update the apps from the Microsoft Store.

Windows 10 Mobile Twitter users would be seeing a new update in the Microsoft Store currently available for download which pushes the Twitter app to the new PWA version already available for Windows 10 desktop users.
