While Microsoft has stopped reporting Xbox One sales during its quarterly earnings reports, the gaming platform seems to be growing. Microsoft’s CEO during the company’s recent financial earnings call said that Xbox drives the best engagement, and it certainly makes sense because the Xbox ecosystem now includes Windows 10 devices as well.
Xbox is the console with the highest engagement, the company’s CEO said. Needless to say, Microsoft’s investment and involvement in Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Game Pass is already making it clear that they are taking gaming seriously.
“So first is, the console itself is the highest engagement console out in the marketplace”, he said. “So anytime a new game, whether it’s first-party or third-party releases, the fact that Xbox is where the best engagement is driven benefits us, he continued.
The comments were made during Microsoft’s annual shareholders meeting and the fact that Satya Nadella is praising Xbox achievements confirms that the software giant is still committed to the gaming industry. It is clear that Microsoft is planning to expand the Xbox’s gaming business as the company recently hinted plans for $100 billion gaming industry.
In the coming months, Microsoft aims to grow and engage the millions of Xbox Live members more deeply and frequently. Chief financial officer Amy Hood also said she is expecting more growth in the current financial quarter. While it remains to be seen where Microsoft takes their gaming division from here on out, the company’s most advanced console the Xbox One X is quite popular and recently made it Time Magazine’s Top Ten Gadgets of 2017 list.
Xbox One’s successor could be 2 years away
Microsoft released its new Xbox One X last year but the successor of the power console won’t be launched anytime soon. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes that the successor of Xbox One X is at least two years. “As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming,” he said.
While a new Xbox console could launch in 2019 at the earliest, Microsoft has been marketing the Xbox One X as the best console. In the meantime, Microsoft could also grow the exclusive games for Xbox One which would eventually drive more sales and engagement.
