Microsoft is expected to release the Redstone 4 update for Windows 10 around mid-April 2018. Microsoft had released the Build 16353 in August 2017 which was the first build for the Redstone 4 branch. Microsoft has not yet named this update which they had done a couple of months after the beginning of Insider builds for Redstone 2 and Redstone 3 updates of Windows 10 last year.
And now that we are just about a month away from the release of Redstone 4 for all Windows 10 users it looks like Microsoft are done with adding new features in the upcoming Redstone 4 insider builds. Insider builds will now come more frequently as they will mostly contain bugfixes and performance improvements. We won’t be seeing new features being added until the Redstone 5 branch builds come out.
Redstone 4 contains many new features along with the introduction of fluent design in more areas of the Windows 10 UI. In Redstone 4 Microsoft has added fluent design acrylic effect and reveal effect in the Start menu, Taskbar, and many other areas.
A new feature that was added in was the Nearby Share that allows users to share content between two nearby devices. Nearby share also has its own toggle in action center. Individual app settings can now be reached directly from the live tiles context menu by right-clicking on it. My people hub has also received some new features like dragging people on the taskbar and other design improvements.
The bookmark UI of document reader in Microsoft edge has also been updated with a new UI that also contains many fluent design elements in it. The touch keyboard also received fluent design language in Redstone 4 updates. The settings app has also received the acrylic blur effect on the left side panel. It has also been upgraded with many settings items that were earlier part of control panel settings.
We hope Microsoft would soon reveal the name for Redstone 4 update as the RTM build is also very near to its release to OEMs.
